2/10/22 The Beckford Connection

Mother Kathy would like to share the message below from The Rev. Laura Minnich Lockey in light of recent events at Virginia college campuses that touch our communities. Please keep the JMU and BC families in your prayers.

“My heart is broken. 2 young men have taken their lives on the JMU campus in 7 days; a man shot and killed 2 officers at Bridgewater College; a man shot and killed a high school student, and wounded 4 others in Blacksburg.

The heaviness is palpable. The sadness covers like a blanket.

I stood on the Quad for 2 hours in the freezing temps tonight and  heard story after story of hurt, of resilience, of hope. I heard students, faculty, and administrators.

I am a woman of God, and I know my Redeemer lives. I know that Jesus binds the wounds of the broken hearted. I know that my salvation began with a death, and I know that in the Resurrection there is victory over death.

That does not gloss over the broken heart. It lifts it up; it bears it forward; it holds it tenderly. Death does not have the last word.

Hug your children. Tell them how precious they are. Tell them you would never be the same without them.

Pray for our children. Pray for our college campuses — Not just the students, but the administrators, faculty and staff. Pray for the chaplains as we speak hope and Light into these dark times.

I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
After my awaking, he will raise me up; and in my body I shall see God.
I myself shall see, and my eyes will behold God who is my friend and not a stranger.”

SHRINE MONT SUMMER CAMPS
Camps for children ages 8 and up at Shrine Mont for summer 2022 are open for registration. If you know of a child who would benefit from these camps, we encourage you to explore the options. From art to sports to exploring the great outdoors, this year’s camps will include both new activities as well as beloved camp programs and traditions. And with two sessions of Family Camp, there’s something for everyone. Spots are filling up fast, but there are still a few openings left! Visit www.shrinemontcamps.net for dates, rates, and programs. Scholarships are available so please do not let cost be a deciding factor. Please speak with Mother Kathy if you have questions.
