Our Rector: The Rev. Kathleen Murray
Mother Kathy comes to us from New Jersey where she has been Priest-in-Charge at St. Mark’s in Keansburg, NJ. She helped them recover from devastation by Hurricane Sandy, increased overall attendance over the last three years, and oversaw their outreach food ministry that serves 4,000 meals a month and a food pantry that serves 250 families a month.
A graduate of General Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and certificate in spiritual direction, as well as a Master’s of Public Administration from Columbia University, Mother Kathy has been an ordained priest since 2013. She brings a strong background in education, government, finance, and public administration, as well as experience as a senior warden and vestry member. This experience, combined with her warmth, energy, and kindness, greatly impressed the Search Committee. After a long, thorough process of vetting several candidates, The Committee believed that Mother Kathy was uniquely and abundantly qualified to lead their churches, expand the parish’s ministries in Shenandoah County, and provide pastoral care within our churches. She and her spouse, Marty Dooley, were welcomed at a joint service at St. Andrew’s for All Saints Day on November 5, 2017. Marty is an ordained Episcopal deacon.
Our Parish Administrator: Mary Gibson
Mary is the glue that holds our parish together. Always enthusiastic and seemingly tireless, she is our organizer, our cheerleader, and our standard-bearer.
Mary is usually at Emmanuel on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8am to 1pm and at St. Andrew’s on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 1pm. Besides answering the phone and being an ambassador for our churches, Mary supports the Rector and the vestries in their administration of the churches and parish, and she works closely with the treasurers in helping with accounting and depositing. She is absolutely masterful at coordinating special events and making sure there are volunteers in place and food on hand to get the job done.
Music Director AT St. Andrew’s: Wilson Troxell
Wilson has served at both of our churches over the years and is currently Music Director/Organist at St. Andrew’s. With a B.A. in Music Performance from Longwood, he brings remarkable musical vocal and keyboard gifts that enrich our worship.
Wilson loves the Episcopal Church liturgy and knows it well, so his selection of music always complements the seasons and the services. His ability to improvise amazes us all, and his inspiring music played as prelude, postlude, and offertory adds so much to everyone’s worship experience.
Music Director At Emmanuel: Linda BevillE
Linda came to Emmanuel Episcopal Church in March 2015 as organist and choir director. She retired from teaching music in Prince William County Public Schools and moved to Winchester. She has been involved in the music ministries of various Episcopal churches for over 40 years. Linda works closely with the Rector and church members to have a rich and diverse musical support for worship. In addition to the regular Sunday service at 11:15 (Rite II with music), Emmanuel has had several choral Evensongs, a Service of Advent Lessons and Carols and Christmas Lessons and Carols. Service music is enriched by guest musicians. While centering on traditional Episcopal hymns, styles for preludes, postludes, and anthems are very diverse and reflect contemporary, folk heritage, classical and spiritual traditions.
“When I came to Emmanuel, I found a vibrant and engaged group of people who seemed so down to earth that they weren’t aware of their own extraordinary gifts. Time and again, I have been told by the Holy Spirit that my spiritual home is Emmanuel Church. Please consider visiting Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and if you are called, share in our own Music Ministry.”
