9/30/21 The Beckford Connection

“On Friday of this week, October 1, Breast Cancer Awareness Month begins. Also on Friday of this week, I celebrate one year since I completed active cancer treatment of surgeries, chemo and radiation. As these two moments converge, I share one of the Psalms from the Wilderness that I wrote during and after treatment, one that speaks not only of the disruption of cancer treatment, but the disruption of this continuing time of pandemic. As I share it, I urge all of my sisters to go and get your mammogram. One out of eight women face breast cancer in their lifetime. Twelve and a half percent! Early detection saves health and saves lives. Do it for your own sake and for the sake of those who love you.”

OCTOBER SERVICE AT SHRINE MONT: REMINDER TO RSVP FOR LUNCH BY THIS SUNDAY
Sunday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. we’ll be having a joint service at Shrine Mont in the lower pavilion. We’ll be asking folks to wear masks and practice social distancing.

For lunch after, we’re going to be eating lunch in the dining room. Lunch is $14.75 per person, which can be paid directly to Mother Kathy (checks made out to Emmanuel or St. Andrew’s) as we need to pay in full before the date.
If you plan to eat lunch at Shrine Mont, please RSVP using this form by Sun., Oct. 3 (we have to have a final count to Shrine Mont the morning of Oct. 4).

If you have concerns about covering the cost of lunch, please let Mother Kathy know. If you have any questions, please speak with Mother Kathy or Melissa.

PET BLESSING
This Saturday, Oct. 2, Mother Kathy is offering pet blessings. She’ll be at Emmanuel from 11 to 11:30 a.m. then St. Andrew’s from 1 to 1:30 p.m. for folks to come by with their furry, feathered or scaled friends securely in carriers or on leashes (or bring a photo of them) for a drive up or stand-by-your car parking lot pet blessing.

HALLOWEEN ON COURT SQUARE
Sat., Oct. 30, Woodstock is doing their annual Halloween on Court Square. The parish is participating by putting together individual bags of candy with the churches’ info for kids to pick up from a table in front of Emmanuel. Given current COVID rates, we won’t be having volunteers hand it out directly.

If you’d like to help with this effort, funds would be greatly appreciated. Checks can be made out to Emmanuel with a note that it’s for Halloween and mailed to Emmanuel or placed in the large envelopes marked “Halloween” on the small table by the fellowship hall door at Emmanuel and on the table in St. Andrew’s fellowship hall by the masks.

If you have any questions, please let Mother Kathy or Melissa know.

WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASK POLICY
Given the trends in the county infection rate, the Delta variant, CDC guidance and other pertinent information, everyone is required to wear masks at services, no matter vaccination status. We are also asking folks to maintain 6 feet of social distancing at all times, including skipping every other pew.

Our goal is to keep one another as safe as we possibly can. We are very concerned about the continued high rates of infection and transmission in ShenCo, combined with a low vaccination rate, and are monitoring the situation very closely. We urge everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated. Please keep an eye on our website and your email in case important updates need to be shared.
