“The church is the only society that doesn’t exist for the good of its members.”
~ William Temple, Archbishop of Canterbury during WWII,
known for speaking out against Nazi atrocities.
UPDATED: MASK POLICY
Given the trends in the county infection rate, the Delta variant, CDC guidance and other pertinent information, everyone will be required to wear masks at services starting this Sunday, no matter vaccination status. Our goal is to keep one another as safe as we possibly can.
MOTHER KATHY IS AWAY
From Aug. 12 through 16 Mother Kathy is scheduled to be away. With that in mind, the Aug. 15 Sunday services are Morning Prayer. If you have a pastoral emergency while she is away, please contact your senior warden (Neil Fadely at St. Andrew’s, Kirk Denkler at Emmanuel). You may also email Melissa as usual for help with other issues or concerns.
WEDNESDAY HEALING EUCHARIST
Starting August 18 at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday Healing Eucharist is returning at Emmanuel.
REMEMBERING JOAN SARNA
Barbara Arnold shared has shared some lovely memories of Joan.
Joan was not only a dear beloved friend but someone I admired as a Christian. She never spoke an unkind word about anyone. I loved her neck warmers she used to make and sell at the “Market” in the north-end of Woodstock shopping center. They were filled with rice and herbs of various scents. You placed them in the microwave for couple minutes and placed them anywhere around your neck, shoulders or body. She made and sold other articles as well.
I could tell you other stories about her — especially the time my daughter and I were in an Uber going to Dayton, Ohio, airport after attending my sister’s funeral. The lady driving the Uber was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (when Joan was president) and knew her and the area in and around Woodstock and Edinburg. She spoke highly of Joan. SMALL world indeed!
I will miss her and think of her often.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED MONDAY AT EMMANUEL’S TABLE FOOD PANTRY
Volunteers are needed to help unload food deliveries at 1:30 p.m. and to help bag items at 2:30 p.m. Mon., Aug. 9. If you’re able to help, please email Tillie Kaufmann to let her know you’re coming and be sure drop off/packing is happening.
We’re also in great need of volunteers to assist with ordering, inventory and to help Tillie with volunteer recruitment/scheduling. If you know anyone who may be interested in helping, please have them contact Mother Kathy ASAP.
As Barbara Kirkland says, “As the Body of Christ, our congregation is directed to ‘welcome the stranger, feed the hungry’ and twice a month we do this in Christ’s name asking only, ‘how many are in your family?’ Emmanuel’s Table is a way for us to BE the church, rather than just go to church. When you support us with your time, (sic) you are there with us as the face of Christ in the world.”
The pantry is open in August on the second and fourth Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Aug. 10 and 24). If you know of anyone in need of food, please send them over. More info.

Our prayer list can be found on our website. If you have folks you’d like added to the prayer list, please email their names to Melissa.
