I am requesting your assistance with a very special event: The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, which will be held at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, starting on May 31, 2019, from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. June 1.

I am representing Emmanuel on the First Baptist Church-Woodstock & Friends Relay for Life team. The team is comprised of members from seven different churches with team leader George Brinkley. My request is for your assistance with any of the following activities/events that you may be able to or would like to donate to in order to help our team raise money for the American Cancer Society.


Each year Relay for Life teams sale luminaries. The donor can select what is written on each bag. Sales go until May 30.
White bags $5.00 each “In memory of __” or “In honor of __”
Purple bags $10.00 each for “caregivers”
Gold bags $25.00 each “In memory of__” or “In honor of__”

Tiki Torches:

Sales go until May 15th
$50.00 each with an engraved name plate, which is the part taken home.

Lantern of Hope:

New this year Sales go until May 15th
$50.00 each beautiful, silver-metal lantern with an engraved name plate, both yours to keep.

Memorial Garden:

New this year Sales go until May 15th
$15.00 potted flowers placed in a garden with name of caregiver. Can take home after Relay of Life ceremony.

Quilt Raffle

Beautiful, colorful queen-size quilt (have picture to view) made and donated by Arlene Galambos (member of First Baptist). Tickets are $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00.

Candy Bars

Candy bars-large size (Kit Kat, Reese’s cups, Twizzlers-strawberry, Hershey’s w/almonds) for sale at $2.00 per bar.

Sat. March 23 – Chicken BBQ 

Shaffer’s at Rite Aid. $4.00 per half. Will be ready for purchase by 8 a.m. until sold out. Pre-orders will be taken and must be picked up by 11 a.m.

Sat. March 30 – Steak Dinner (cooked by Jay & Tammi Ross)

First Baptist Church. $15.00 per ticket from 5 to 7 p.m. Meal includes steak, potato, beans, salad, drink and dessert.

Thurs. April 11 – Sign Making

Small sign for decoration, like “Welcome Friends”, etc., at First Baptist Church from 6:30 p.m. until complete.

Sat. April 20 – Bake Sale

Located at Tractor Supply starting at 8 a.m. Since this is the day before Easter, we will have coconut and peanut butter eggs for sale. We would greatly appreciate any donations of baked goods (cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, rolls, or other treats) for the sale. I know we have some GREAT cooks/bakers at Emmanuel. If you will let me know (540-325-2563) by Friday morning (4/19), I will make arrangements with you for getting your donation.

Sun. May 5th – Arby’s Benefit Day

If you purchase food at Arby’s between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. a portion (15%) of all sales will benefit Relay for Life.

Sat. May 18th – Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction/Quilt Raffle Drawing

It is at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall from 4 – 7 p.m. Silent auction bids close promptly at 7p.m. Quilt raffle winner will be drawn as well. If you have something to donate to the auction, such as new or handmade items, gift cards, certificates or baskets, etc., please give me a call prior to Fri., May 17.

Sat. May 25 –Yard Sale

Location is Woodstock Town Park (largest pavilion). We will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks. We would greatly appreciate items you are ready to part with that can be sold at the yard sale. Please call me by Friday (5/24) to make arrangements for getting your donation.
