10/8 Weekly Update

10/8 Weekly Update

REMINDER: RSVPs DUE FOR SHRINE MONT SERVICE
We’re at Shrine Mont again next weekend, Sunday, Oct. 18. Please be sure to RSVP by this Sunday, Oct. 11. If you’re coming on your own and prefer to not sit alone, please email Mother Kathy or Melissa. We have a few groups coming (including Mother Kathy for lunch) that you’re welcome to sit with.

Here is info about safety requirements and how to RSVP.

For those coming for lunch: We need to pay ahead of time so ask that on that Sunday you bring a check in the amount of $14.75 per person made out to Emmanuel with “discretionary” in the memo. Checks can go to Mother Kathy.

If you have any questions or concerns please let Mother Kathy or Melissa know.

PET BLESSING SATURDAY AND SUNDAY
Our are always a source of friendship, love and comfort. This is especially true this year given all we’ve gone through.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Mother Kathy is going to be at Emmanuel from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and St. Andrew’s from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the parking lots for a “drive up” or “at the car socially distanced” pet blessing. Please make sure all your critter friends are properly leashed or in a secure carrier as appropriate for their species. We don’t want to have anyone slither, run or fly off.

At the Sunday, Oct. 11, service, Mother Kathy is offering a virtual pet blessing for all our special furred, feathered, finned and scaled friends. If you have friends who would like to come with their pet, please invite them. Every human and animal is welcome.

OCTOBER VESTRY MEETINGS
Emmanuel is meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. and St. Andrew’s is meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Both vestries are meeting via Zoom. A reminder with the Zoom link is going out from Melissa the day before.

SOUTHERN SHENANDOAH WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY
Every Wednesday, the Episcopal churches in Elkton, Harrisonburg, Luray, Mt. Jackson, Port Republic, Stanley, and Woodstock are having an online Bible study from 7 to 8 p.m. You can join online via Zoom. This group is meeting through the month of November. If you haven’t been able to attend, no problem! You’re welcome to jump in any Wednesday you’re available. If you have any question, please let Mother Kathy know.

EMMANUEL’S TABLE FOOD PANTRY
The pantry is open Oct. 13 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you know anyone in need, please send them over.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the pantry, contact our new volunteer coordinator, Tillie Kaufmann (tillie@shentel.net). She can answer any questions you may have.

OCTOBER PLEDGES
Now more than ever, your pledges make a difference. You can mail current or past month’s pledges (time seems to get away from us, doesn’t it?) to the church offices. Your pledges are very appreciated as they’re what allow us to keep the churches operating and our community supports going out to those in need.

Shrine Mont is open again for dining in or take out. Their usual menu is available. All tables are situated 6 feet apart for proper social distancing or if you prefer, you can get your meal to go and have a picnic on the grounds. Shrine Mont asks that you call ahead to make a reservation. For more info, you can call 540-856-2141. Final call for Shrine Mont fried chicken dinner. There will be one final opportunity to have a Shrine Mont chicken dinner on Sunday, October 25. You must call ahead to make a reservation.

DROP-IN OFFICE HOURS
Virtual drop in office hours with Mother Kathy are Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Zoom. (If for some reason you aren’t able to get into the Zoom meeting, please send her an email.)

226th ANNUAL DIOCESAN CONVENTION MOVES ONLINE
Our Annual Diocesan Convention, originally scheduled for November 12-14 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, is moving online. Anticipating that it will not be safe or wise to gather more than 600 people in a hotel ballroom across three days this fall, there will be a one-day virtual convention instead on Saturday, November 14.

CONTACTING MOTHER KATHY AND MELISSA
Due to the need for continued caution, we both continue to work from home. If you have a question, concerns or would like to check in with them, please email. Also, please do call Mother Kathy on her cell (we know it says for emergencies, but during this time it’s the best way to reach her. The number is in the directory). NOTE: Virtual offices are closed Monday, Oct. 12 for the Federal holiday.

Mother Kathy generally observes the Sabbath on Friday and Saturday while Melissa is off Thursday after 1:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. While we may not reply immediately, we absolutely will get back to you.

PRAYER LIST
For now, the prayer list can be found online. Melissa is updating it as names are added or removed so it stays current.
